Resizing the DB2 Buffer Pool for Performance Testing
Speaker: Gary Dabb, VSP Vision
Care
Gary will present on techniques to temporarily resize the DB2 database buffer
pool for performance testing to simulate production like cache hit rates. The
goal is to provide a long running performance test with several hundred user
sessions and accurately capture actual response times throughout the test to
identify bottlenecks and performance defects.
10:15 – 11:15 Skills
Transformation – From Performance Tester to Performance Engineer
Speaker: Pat Crain, HP
Justifying and standing up a performance engineering team is a well covered
topic. There are ample experience reports that describe performance engineering
implementations. What generally goes missing is the recipe for
implementing performance engineering via the path of
least organizational and technical friction. That path is through the
performance test team. If you have a team dedicated to performance testing or
an individual who tests performance as a hobby, you have the base ingredients to
develop a performance engineering practice. This presentation provides the
step-by-step recipe to transform performance testers into performance engineers.
Once the transformation starts, performance engineering becomes a de facto
practice and can, with proper care and feeding, move into early SDLC
phases.
11:30 – 12:00
The Devil is in the Details
Speaker: Jay Sales, VSP Vision
Care
What's required when performing a deep dive into a service layer part of
a larger enterprise multi-tier implementation? What should you do besides load
and stress testing? We will be looking into the benefits of a deep dive case
study that exposed the atomic level of performance profiling.
