8:30 - 9:30 Registration and Continental Breakfast 9:30 - 10:30 The Complexity of Web Transaction End-to-End Response Times Speaker: Roger Kovach, Applied Expert Systems
In today's global economy, eBusiness is a vital component of corporate success. In the eBusiness economy a slow Web site is a fast way to lose money. Overall site performance and availability can either attract users or frustrate them. The difference lies in the ability to maintainconsistent, reliable Web site performance despite ever-increasing demands of innovation, performance, and complexity. More often than not, many separate interactions are required within a single transaction. Pop-ups, frames and multiple page downloads are just the start. In order to accurately assess Web site performance, the entire transaction needs to be measured from end to end. Discussion will cover the importance of total response time measurement, the complexity of nesting within web operations, the diagnostic value of historical analysis, and the benefits of establishing and adjusting a performance baseline. Sample logs and reports will be used to show how key performance indicators can be used to manage Web performance.
10:45 - 11:45 Exploiting z/OS Workload Manager Speaker: Steve Samson, Candle Corporation Steve Samson, well-known author and consultant, will present a briefing based on recent experiences, announcements and the presentations of others. Topics include but are not limited to: fear of Discretionary and how to overcome it; safe and sane classification of started tasks; how to make a z900 run like a G5 ('Short Engines'); how to get back as much as possible (IRD); and getting to response time goals in CICS and IMS without risk, and analysis of the z990 announcement. 11:45 - 12:30 NCCMG Business Meeting - Lunch sponsored by Sun Microsystems 12:30 - 1:30 Exploiting z/OS Workload Manager - Continued Speaker: Steve Samson, Candle Corporation 1:45 - 2:45 A New Approach to Meeting SLAs Through Managing IT Resources. Speaker: Amir Raz, Sun Microsystems, Inc. Today's static IT architectures do not provide users with the ability to meet dynamic application requirements, or to utilize their IT resources in a cost-effective manner. The service-level objectives users are specifying for applications drive the requirements for compute, networking and storage components of IT environments. N1is a solution where these three components are virtualized and managed holistically to meet service objectives optimally. Amir's presentation will present a new vision for the data center as a system. He will talk about how N1 plays into that vision, and how it will change the way data centers are operated. Please pre-register by contacting Keith McAndrew at 916-286-5929 or Keith_McAndrew@StorageTek.com <mailto:McAndKA@NORTHAMERICA.Stortek.com> by Friday May 23, 2003.
