Storage Virtualization Technologies - How to Determine What’s Right for Your Organization

Tom Trainer, Evaluator Group

Storage virtualization separates virtual volumes from physical volumes through abstraction.  Systems are then attached to virtual volumes which are managed 'behind the scenes" on Storage Area Networks (SANS).  There are two approaches to SANS configurations.  This session will review and discuss asymmetric (1) (out-of-the-data-path) and symmetric (2) (in-the-data-path) virtualization technologies. How can you determine what virtualization solution is right for you, or if you need virtualization at all? What you learn may surprise you!

Note: (1) Separate appliances installed out of the data path of the Storage Network Infrastructure.  (2) Separate appliances installed in the data path of the Storage Network Infrastructure.
