The Fundamental Laws of Internet Performance

Marilyn Kanas, Keynote Systems

On the Internet, high performance is an absolute, non-negotiable, requirement. Revenues are lost or gained based on the customer's experience of Web performance. Global 2000 companies are expecting a growing percentage of revenues to be derived from e-business channels. However, what is the actual customer experience of your site's performance? How do you know whether you're delivering a high quality customer experience? What happens when you fall behind? Moreover, what can you do to keep up with a seemingly unending thirst for faster and faster performance?

This session will present several fundamental laws of Internet performance and more specifically, techniques to optimize the performance of your e-business. You will learn how to adequately prepare for user loads and unexpected emergencies; optimize server, content, and network infrastructure to maximize performance; proactively diagnose and resolve problems affecting the performance of your Web applications; and develop strategies to assure end-to-end performance objectives. You will learn the current standards for Internet performance, how those standards and corresponding user expectations have changed, and the consequences for not keeping up with them.
