NT Benchmarking Techniques - An Update
Dr. Bernie Domanski
Our objective is to identify the always changing state-of-the-art in benchmarking Windows NT(r). We describe some standard processor benchmarks in the industry, and, where possible, we offer ratings of various processors. A fair amount of work has been done in developing different benchmark suites that correspond to different workloads, each yielding different ratings. Finally, pointers to World Wide Web sites will be provided to access more information on a particular subject. We previously reviewed several benchmarks in 1998, and we revisit some of those here.

Dr. Bernie is a Internationally known speaker and educator.  His credits are too numerous to elaborate in a small space.  If you are interested in reviewing his current resume, visit his website at: http://domanski.cs.csi.cuny.edu

Workload Manager and CICS: New Options and New Insights
Steve Samson
The interaction between CICS and WLM goal mode has been a frequent matter for concern. Many who implement goal mode see the complexity of the CICS interface and the difficulty of exploiting response time goals; they give up and stay on velocity goals with no intent to change. In March 2000 IBM announced a series of new facilities including optional changes to the way CICS operates in goal mode. This paper presents the new CICS options as well as a new and less disruptive approach to goal mode migration and exploitation for CICS.

Latent Demand Considerations in Mainframe Analytical Modeling
Greg Caliri
Analytical modeling is a capacity planning function often used to accurately project future computing resource requirements. However, many capacity planners ignore activity "outside of the box" - network changes, human behavior, and changing requirements which can introduce latent demand to an upgraded system and adversely affect the results of their best planning efforts.

Greg Caliri is a Senior Technical Staff Analyst at BMC Software's support center for BEST/1-Datacenter and BEST/1-Visualizer in their Waltham, Massachusetts office. He has 27 years experience in MIS in the areas of operations, programming, systems programming and maintenance, and performance and capacity planning. He joined BGS Systems in 1996 and became part of BMC Software when the two companies merged. He has been a member of CMG since 1986 and was the co-founder and first Chairman of the Greater Boston CMG regional group. He has been presenting at national CMG since 1989 and also has spoken before several regional groups.

zSeries 900: The 390's Last Hurrah or New Beginning
Dr. Douglas MacKinnon
This presentation will discuss the status of the OS390 market and the future enhancements we will likely see over the next 3 years. He will draw on his experience and background developing OS390 strategies for BMC Software, and share his vision of what is in store for the OS390 world over the next few years.

Douglas MacKinnon is past President of the Southern California chapter of CMG. In addition, he has published several papers at the National CMG. For the past eight years he has been working with BMC Software in Houston and is currently their Director of OS390 Performance Strategy. Prior to this, he worked seven years at Candle Corporation as one of their first Product Managers and subsequently as Director of Marketing. He has additional experience in Performance Management and Capacity Planning at Rockwell International and Hughes Aircraft.
